Doors open 7.00pm. My Life As a Turkey, with an Introduction from the director, David Allen. The story of how Joe Hutto headed deep into the wilderness to become mother to sixteen wild turkeys is Florida’s version of Ring of Bright Water or an avian Born Free. Hutto’s life was forever changed when a local farmer left a basket of eggs on his doorstep. Having an interest in imprinting young animals, he incubated the eggs and waited for them to hatch. Hutto went on to raise the 15 newborn Turkeys into adulthood. It’s hard to imagine that a young turkey can become a character like an otter or lion, but that is just one of the revelations that lie behind this extraordinary story. The film won an Emmy in America and the prestigious best of festival award at the UK’s Wildscreen Film Festival. Described in the Times as “Possibly the best documentary of the year” My Life As a Turkey” is an unmissable piece of filmmaking with a structure that breaks all genres. David Allen is an Emmy Award winning producer of wildlife and nature films, responsible for the innovative wildlife and nature documentary division of production company Passion Pictures: Passion Planet.
