“Nail-biting” and “warmly humane” THE GUARDIAN
Life in Syria was difficult under the Assad regime, but once the siege of Aleppo began in earnest, 27 year-old Abdullhah Sheikh Nabi, known as Guevara for his charisma, convictions, and leadership, has no choice but to lead his family out of the war-torn country. They leave all they knew behind in Syria and hopes of a better future.
Starting out from Aleppo, Syria, SKY AND GROUND follows side-by-side with the family as they attempt to cross 7 countries on their way to safety in Berlin – on foot.
Along the way they face countless setbacks, heartaches and challenges: From attempting to cope with crowded refugee camps, to hiding in bushes, sleeping in the woods and trying sneak through fenced borders.
With the global refugee crisis getting worse, immigration and refugees continue to be a hot button issue among U.S. and European politics. Sky & Ground is a deeply powerful diary of a precarious journey, and a courageous family.
